Do You Have a Nutrient Deficiency?
What Causes Nutrient Deficiencies?
Nutrient deficiencies are caused by a variety of conditions, stress, medications, and inadequate nutritional intake. With functional deficiencies, a nutrient may be present; however, the sufficient cofactors needed to utilize the nutrient may not be present, or they may not be properly activated. Functional deficiencies include anything that may reduce the concentration or the efficacy of a nutrient, resulting in a defect in biochemical pathways. A deficient pathway may operate at a sub-optimal level for many months or even years before a clinical symptom may become apparent.
What Happens If You Have Deficiencies?
Specific nutrients are essential for the immune system. Nutrient deficiencies impair immune responses and lead to frequent infections and difficulty fighting infections and illnesses. As we age, immune function gradually declines as the thymus gland shrinks, resulting in an accumulation of antigenic exposures that can cause autoimmunity issues. Zinc, B vitamins, amino acids, and antioxidants are additional nutrients that are critical to the maintenance of an effective immune response. Studies have suggested that immune function decline may be slowed or even reversed through the detection and correction of specific nutrient deficiencies.
How to Test for Nutrient Deficiencies.
Spectracell’s Micronutrient Test measures the function of 35 nutritional components, including vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and amino acids within our white blood cells, which, according to scientific evidence, gives us the most accurate analysis of a body’s deficiencies. Traditional serum testing only assesses the concentration of nutritional components, while Spectracell’s Micronutrient Test also evaluates the function of a nutrient and offers the most accurate, scientifically proven method of assessing nutritional deficiencies.
